Asphalt is transported, as well as stored, at approximately 300 degrees fahrenheit. At times kerosene or diesel oil is mixed in before shipping to aid in maintaining a liquid state and then at delivery the lighter materials are separated out. Some dump trucks can route the hot engine exhaust through pipes in the dump truck body to keep the asphalt warm till use. Handling equipment, as well as dump trucks, will often be sprayed with a releasing agent, before they are filled, to help in pouring the asphalt and make it ready for spreading on the road surface.
