Very little asphalt concrete is actually disposed of in landfills. Asphalt concrete that is removed from a pavement is usually stockpiled for later use with asphalt emulsions after it is crushed into gravel or rock. Chipseal involves spraying asphalt emulsions on the concrete surface followed by a layer of crushed gravel or rock. Asphalt slurry sealing involves the mixing of asphalt emulsions and fine crushed stone, sand, and gravel, also known as aggregates, that is then spread on the surface of the concrete. |
